In this universe we are blessed with many blessings of ALLAH almighty. Like mountains, minerals, sea, river, forests, seasons and so many other uncountable things. Among these blessing there is rain water also, which is one of the basic sources of our drinking water. In early days rain water was collected through ponds and lakes. But now a days our cities are heavily populated and here and there all we can see are concrete buildings. So( there is no space left for storage of rain water in our cities.)

As we all know glaciers are melting day by day and almost all of the Asian countries are facing the shortage of drinking water. As many researches define that after few years world will face a huge problem regarding shortage of drinking water. In spite of being an agriculture country shortage of drinking water in Pakistan is arising day by day. Our lakes, rivers are drying. Not only this but people in mega cities are also facing this problem. Specially people in Karachi are used to water tankers which are not only expensive but also provide poor quality water. I always notice that in monsoon season whenever rain falls all drinking purpose water gets wasted on roads and lanes.

Sadly but sometimes it seems like rainfall is no more a blessing for us it has became a curse. When I talked to the people living in low income areas they told me that they don’t want rainfall as it causes problems for them. I think its our responsibility to save this blessing today so that our future generations can have quality drinking water. We have to save rain water before the situation gets worst.

So, its time to think about it if we want this blessing to remain a blessing for us. As ALLAH is giving us, we have to take it as precious gift and take care of it by making it useful for us.

Why wait for some help? We can do this by our own. I would like to share the idea of rain water harvesting system as well as storage for other purposes. Here are some examples

Here is the picture of a village in which people build a tank by their own for storage of rain water even they live a house

Here are the pictures of a well planned house that setup a system for storage of rainwater.

we can also make it on large scale if we have enough space.

Water stored through these methods can be utilized for harvesting, washing, cleaning as well as for drinking purpose. Countries in Africa and India are adopting these methods at initial levels. So if they can why can’t we? On the day of independance I encourage you all to come step forward and apply this to your home and schools wherever you can and save water. Because there is no life without water….
